“Cavalcanti” (1932)

E3a

Ezra Pound

Ezra Pound’s second opera, in three acts, with libretto arranged from poems of Cavalcanti and Sordello, was completed in a first draft during the summer of 1932. Plans were discussed for its broadcast, in whole or in part, in the Spring of 1933 by the B. B. C., but the performance did not take place. Some of the songs, especially the lyric “Tos temps serai,” have been sung on various occasions by Raymonde Collignon, Lonny Mayer, and others. A short example of the music is included in Murray Schafer’s “Ezra Pound and Music,” in Canadian Music Journal, V. 4 Summer 1961) 42.
