Part of the same impression as the Glebe for February 1914—C125, but with binding as above in place of pale olive paper wrappers printed in green (with, on front: DES IMAGISTES | [short ornamental rule] | [monogram:] The Glebe | [short thick ornamental rule]| VOLUME 1 | NUMBER 5 | [short thick ornamental rule] | FEBRUARY | 1914 | [short thick ornamental rule] | Subscription | Three Dollars Yearly | ruts issuE 50 CENTS | [thick ornamental rule] | AN ANTHOLOGY) and title-page (as above) with an ornament in place of the Glebe monogram. At least two lots of paper were used, apparently indiscriminately, for both periodical and book, one without watermark, the other watermarked with a capital D within a diamond above the words: Regal Antique. The periodical has, inserted at the end, a leaf of advertisements printed on yellow paper not present in the book. Later copies of both periodical and book have, tipped in at the front, a slip (measuring approximately 6.5 x 13 cm.) acknowledging permission to reprint certain poems from Poetry. This slip was printed and inserted at the instance of Harriet Monroe. Edited by Ezra Pound, who sent the manuscript to Alfred Kreymborg, then one of the editors of the periodical, in the summer of 1913. Alfred Kreymborg in his autobiographical 7roubadour (New York, 1925—see especially pages 204 and 205, where excerpts from two letters and a card to him from Pound are quoted) states that he and his co-editor Man Ray originally planned to publish the Imagist anthology as the first number of the Glebe, but the plans were changed by Albert and Charles Boni when they took over the financing of the periodical. (The first number when it appeared was dated September 1913.)

Contains “Doria,” “The Return,” “After Ch’u Yuan,” “Liu Ch’e,” “Fan-piece for Her Imperial Lord,” and “Ts’ai Chi’h,” by Ezra Pound, pp. 41-46. “To Hulme (T. E.) and [Desmond] Fitzgerald)’ also by Pound, is printed (with a note at the end: “Written for the cenacle of i909 vide Introduction to ‘The Complete Poetical Works of T. E. Hulme, published at the end of ‘Ripostes.’”), pp. 57-58, as the first of four “Documents,” the last of which (p. 63) is a page of bibliographical information concerning published writings of the contributors to the volume. The other poets represented are Richard Aldington (ten poems, and one of the “Documents”), H. D. (seven poems), F. S. Flint (five), Skipwith Cannell (one), Amy Lowell (one), William Carlos Williams (one), James Joyce (one), Ford Madox Hueffer (one, and one of the “Documents”), Allen Upward (one), and John Cournos (one).
