“Under the collective title of Hesternee Rose (Roses of Yesterday) the writer intends to gather whatever interesting and unknown material he may come across in his study of the music of the early and late past... “The first volume [i.e. Serta I.] (Nine French Songs of the 17th Century) is here followed by a collection of Nine Troubadour Songs of the 12th and 13th Centuries.... The two Daniel melodies are here published for the first time to the writer’s knowledge, and he is indebted to Mr. Ezra Pound, M.A., for communicating them from the Milan Library. ... “The writer with the help of Mr. Ezra Pound, an ardent proclaimer of the artistic side of medizval poetry, has given these melodies the rhythm and the ligature, the character which, from an artistic point of view, seems the most descriptive of the medizeval spirit.” (“Preface,” signed: W.
