conFucio | [short ornamental rule] | TA s’EU | DAI GaKu | STUDIO | INTEGRALE | Versione italiana | di | Ezra Pound | e di | Alberto Luchini | [rule] | 1942-RaPALLO-xx | Scuola Tipografica Orfanotrofio Emiliani 29, [3] pp. 24:3 X 17-1 cm. Heavy buff paper wrappers printed in black on pages [i] and [iv] (with price); wire-stitched. Printed on unwatermarked paper of poor quality. (Some copies were printed on a better, thicker paper, watermarked: P. M. FABRIANO MILIAFLEX. These have heavier cream paper wrappers without price. The cream wrappers occur (probably by mistake) on at least one poor-paper copy (OSP).) Published early 1942 at L. 4; number of copies unknown. A note on the edition by Ezra Pound is printed on pages [31-30], but otherwise the text is printed, and the pamphlet paged, from back to front. Each page has Chinese text with Italian version below. On 3 November [1941] Pound wrote to Mrs Virgil Jordan: “... 1 am... making a real translation of Confucius’ Ta S’eu (wrongly spelled Ta Hio, by the frogs whom I followed in earlier edtns/ .. . Have just finished the Italian draft/ and a bloke, called Luchini is supposed to put it into real Italian.” Notes: For separate edition of the Italian translation without the Chinese text, see Testamento di Confucio (1944)—A54. For Pound’s English version, see “The Great Digest” in Confucius. The Unwobbling Pivot & The Great Digest (1947)— Aj58—and B54 Confucius. The Great Digest & Unwobbling Pivot ({1951])—Bs53. Pound’s earlier English version is Za Hio, The Great Learning (1928)—A28.
