Later volumes of Prolegomena were planned to include the second part of The Spirit of Romance and other prose work of Ezra Pound, but the publishers went out of business before the plans could be realised. How to Read first appeared with title “How to Read, or Why” in three instalments in Mew York Herald Tribune Books from 13 to 27 January 1929. It was reprinted in Polite Essays— A42—pp. 155-92, and in Literary Essays ([1954])—A67—pp. 15-40. 49
